Find Inner Peace – In addition to the many research studies that have been conducted on the healing benefits of prayer, maintaining mental peace and a positive outlook are absolutely critical to cancer prevention and treatment. Unresolved anger and resentment can have direct and lasting effects on your health.Hanging onto anger doesn’t hurt the other person; it hurts us most of all. Finding peace is an absolute commitment to taking personal responsibility for the quality of your life. This includes the willingness to release any unresolved anger. Anyone, no matter what traumas they may have experienced, has the ability to get there. One way to accomplish many of these issues is through forgiveness.Forgiveness does not mean you condone someone’s behavior or justify it. It simply means you are giving up your wish to exact revenge or punish the other person. You are letting go of any expectations that this person will accept responsibility and make amends.
Visit a Biological/Holistic Dentist – Your mouth is the gateway to your body’s complete health. If you have good oral conditions, then you are more likely to enjoy better health and wellness. Substantial research has demonstrated that many diseases and cancers are directly correlated to toxins, infections and root canals found in the mouth.
Mercury Amalgams – Amalgams are responsible for more mercury exposure in the US that any other source. A single mercury amalgam releases as much as 15 micrograms of mercury per day. When you consider that the average person has eight amalgams that means they are absorbing up to 120 micrograms of mercury per day. Since our bodies are incapable of eliminating mercury, these levels compound over time leading to mercury poisoning and the corresponding health issues. To put this number in perspective, let’s look at the “Worldwide Warning” on mercury-tainted seafood consumption. Since 1995, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set a safe daily mercury intake level of 0.1 micrograms per kilogram of body weight. This means for a 150 lb healthy person, no more than 6 micrograms should be consumed per day.
Root Canals – More than 25 million root canals are performed every year in this country. Root-canaled teeth are essentially “dead” teeth that can become silent incubators for highly toxic anaerobic bacteria that can, under certain conditions, make their way into your bloodstream to cause a number of serious medical conditions—many not appearing until decades later. Since the root canaled tooth no longer receives a blood supply, the bacteria is protected from the immune system.
In the early 1900’s, Dr. Weston Price was one of the first researchers to understand the association between root canals and illness. Price was concerned about the pathological bacteria found in nearly all root canal teeth of that time. These bacteria can make their way into the bloodstream infiltrating tissue, organs and glands. He was able to transfer diseases harbored by humans from their extracted root canal teeth into rabbits by inserting a fragment of a root canal root under the skin in the belly area of a test rabbit. He found that root canal fragments from a person who had suffered a heart attack, when implanted into a rabbit, would cause a heart attack in the rabbit within a few weeks. Transference of heart disease could be accomplished 100 percent of the time. The Weston Price Foundation continues his research today and has been able to identify fifty-three different species of anaerobic bacteria in root canals.
Replace Your Non-Stick Cookware – It is estimated at 70% of families in the US own and cook with non-stick cookware. Much of this cookware contains perfluorooctaoic acid and other perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) which gives it the non-stick properties. These chemicals release toxins in the air and in the food even at low temperatures. When the pan reaches just 680 degrees F in about 4 minutes of cooking, at least 6 toxic gases are released in the air. At 1,000 degrees F, the coatings on your cookware break down into a chemical warfare agent known as PFIB. Research has revealed that these toxins can accumulate in your blood at an alarming rate and may lead to chronic disease like cancer over time. There are several safer lines of cookware on the market that provide the benefits of non-stick without the toxic exposure. Look for nonstick pans coated with Thermolon, which won’t break down below temperatures of 450 degrees C and is developed from minerals.
Wear Safe Sunscreen – Skin cancer is the most common and most preventable form of cancer. Protecting your skin from the dangerous UVA and UVB radiation may help reduce your risk of skin cancer, however, not all sunscreens are safe.Sunscreens come in two forms, chemical and mineral. The most common and popular sunscreens on the market are chemical compounds designed to adhere to and permeate the skin to absorb UV light. They often contain penetration enhancers to assist in the skin’s absorption, and because of this, the chemical ingredients are frequently found in blood, urine, and even breast milk. The ingredients in sunscreen to watch out for are oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate – all of which have been found to disrupt and / or mimic hormones. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the most prevelant chemical, Oxybenzone (also called benzophenone-3) has been detected in more than 97% of the U.S. population.
Mineral sunscreens offer a safer way to protect your skin against UV rays. These sunscreens reflect the damaging rays away from your skin rather than absorbing them. They contain nanoparticles zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that do not degrade in sunlight or easily wash away. Make sure to avoid sprays and powders, however, to prevent ingestion.
Stand More & Sit Less – A recent advisory from the American Heart Association revealed that anyone who sits for hours each day is at risk of developing a variety of health issues including cancer, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. In one study in the American Journal of Epidemiology, researchers found that men who sit for 6 or more hours per day increased their risk of dying from chronic disease by 50% over those who sitting 3 hours or less. Further studies have demonstrated that standing up increases productivity, as well as tones muscles, burns more calories, improves posture, and ramps up metabolism.Experts recommend adjustable stand-up desks, leaning desks, and treadmill desks as ways to be less sedentary. If this is not an option for you, try this formula. For every 30 minutes in your day, sit for 20, stand for 8 and stretch for 2. Reducing how often you sit, by no matter how little, will benefit your health.Cancer prevention does not guarantee you will always be cancer free but taking measures to reduce your risk will give you the upper hand. Stay tuned next month when I discuss additional ways you can reduce your risk of cancer and obtain optimal health!
